Welcome back to training for 2026! We’ve enjoyed a few weeks of instructor choice over the break but we’re back to our normal training program from Saturday 31st of January, starting with poomsae.
With the weather still quite warm it is important to be properly hydrated before training. Ensure you drink enough during the day and have a small snack before training. We will continue with all classes, but might make some small changes to the way the class is run. The news blinds are doing a great job of keeping the dojang cool with temperatures below 30 inside even on the hottest day of the year!
The new year usually sees a few new students joining us so please make them feel welcome!

2026 INSURANCE

In the past, individual AusTKD membership and insurance fees have been covered by Sangrok. As noted last year, from 2025 these fees will now be passed onto students. We are a volunteer club, committed to keeping fees as low as possible however rising costs (rent, equipment, electricity) over the last 5 years have made some changes inevitable. Regular membership fees will stay the same, but the $30 per person membership and insurance fee will be added to your membership payment in February, with a $100 cap per family. If you have any questions, or would like us to space out your insurance fees, please just let us know. It is also worth noting that the insurance provided by AusTKD is comprehensive and offers good value for money. If you are injured during training, please let an instructor know and complete an incident report form (there is a QR code where the first aid equipment is stored) so that you can access insurance if needed.
CLUB UPDATES

The holidays were a busy time for the team, with the new blinds being installed over the Christmas/New Year break. Each window now has a shade and a block out blind which, apart from looking great, has helped to reduce the summer heat in the dojang considerably. We’ve also got some new storage equipment which will help us to keep the dojang more organised.
RED AND BLACK BELT UPDATE

All red and black belt students should have received an email from head instructor, Tripharn, regarding intentions to grade over the next 12-18 months. Please ensure you make a time to discuss your goals with Tripharn sometime this term. If you didn’t receive this email, please just let us know! Note that the black belt grading for this year is scheduled for 1 November 2026 (only 275 days away).
SANGROK MINI
Our Sangrok Mini class will start again in 2026 on Saturday 31 January! If you know anyone looking for an activity for young children, please recommend us!
TRAINING IN HOT WEATHER

As we’re now in the hottest months of the year, please ensure that you bring a water bottle with you to training and that you have had enough to eat and drink throughout the day. We do our best to keep the dojang as cool as possible, however, it can get pretty warm! If you forget your drink bottle, we have some cups available (please remember to wash up at the end of the class).
Please do not wear multiple layers to training (i.e. a layer of clothing under your uniform) for safety reasons – if you require a layer for modesty please get in touch with us to we can recommend something safe.
Following the Sports Medicine Australia guidelines for training in extreme heat, the following may be used to mitigate the high temperatures in the dojang:
- Extra rest and water breaks
- Modify clothing – students may wear t-shirts to training in summer and may be asked to remove excess layers prior to training
- Active cooling
- Stop exercising – this may mean that the class focuses on conditioning and/or stretching
If you are feeling unwell during class, please stop and let your instructor know straight away.
