It hasn’t been that long since we had temperatures over 30 in the dojang and now it’s almost time to start warming up in hoodies! Even though the temperature has dropped, make sure you bring a drink bottle to training to keep hydrated!

If you are looking for Sangrok branded apparel then head over to our store Sangrok Apparel Store. We have had some issues where the designs are not aligning or the logo sizing is not correct, so please double check prior to ordering and let us know if you have any questions or concerns prior to purchase and we can fix it up for you. The Sangrok hoodies are particularly warm and fluffy, perfect for Canberra winters!

SPARRING EQUIPMENT CHEST GUARD / HOGU

After some review, we have decided to reduce our holdings of hogu for the club. With over 100 students, of various sizes, our ability to keep a sufficient amount in all sizes is proving to be costly and unsustainable. This is particularly the case as our costs with our supplier have and continue to increase quite rapidly. Therefore, as the existing chestguards wear out over the calendar year, we will not be replacing them and only maintaining a small number for our white and yellow belt students.

We understand that purchasing equipment can be costly, in addition to training fees, particularly for families. Therefore we will hold some stock for white and yellow belts, but the expectation is for blue belts and above to have their own chest guard – in addition to mouthguard, arm guards and leg guards (as a minimum).

We do have access to wholesale pricing via SMAI, which can provide a signficant discount to our students. Often we can provide equipment delivered to Sangrok that is cheaper than the direct RRP price available online. You can check out a wide range of equipment at the SMAI website.

With regards to equipment, this is the minimum requirement per belt range:

  • White belt – Mouthguard
  • Yellow belt – Arm guards; Leg guards; Mouthguard
  • Blue belt and above – Chest guard; Arm guards; Leg guards; Mouthguard

As always, we also recommend a groin guard! If you do not have the right equipment for your belt, please check out our equipment pricing list. If you need any equipment, then please complete our Equipment Order Forms and send it via email to info@sangrok.net.au . Please note that it can take a couple of weeks for the equipment to arrive, and we often wait for a large enough order to reduce our shipping costs, which keeps the price low for everyone.

We’re in the process of updating the website and the pricing list and new order form will be available on the website soon.

SECOND EMAIL FOR CLUB COMMUNICATION

We have the ability to add secondary emails to member accounts.  This would mean that both parents and kids would receive email communication from Sangrok which would be particularly useful for emails about sparring week and workshop opportunities. If you would like to add a second email address to an account, please just let us know.

THURSDAY INTERMEDIATE CLASSES

It would be great to see more people at our Thursday 6.30 pm intermediate class. As a small class, this is an awesome opportunity to get some 1:1 attention from the instructor.

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS

We will be running a fundamentals workshop for beginner students next month. This will be a couple of weeks before our next grading and will be a good opportunity for newer students to keep working on and learning basic techniques!

Fundamentals workshop
When: 10am-12pm Sunday 15 June
Where: Sangrok Dojang, Mitchell
Who: Open to all students, but recommended for beginners – white and yellow belt!

Please register via the Clubworx portal or app so that we can ensure we have enough instructors for this workshop!

We will also be running a beginner self defence workshop soon (with an intermediate workshop to come later), and we’re also hoping to run a Sangrok sparring tournament in the coming months. If you have any suggestions for workshops, please let us know.

REGISTERING FOR CLASSES

Please remember to register for classes in advance – this helps us, as the instructor team, to prepare for the classes by ensuring we have enough assistant instructors for each class. It also means we can stick to our class size limits so that everyone can enjoy a safe and effective training environment.

SANGROK FLYERS

We have some new promotional flyers. We will hand these out to families at training over the next few weeks and we would be so grateful if you could put one up at your local noticeboard or take it to work!
